The Umbrella Academy - Season 3
Cazzie David, Justin Cornwell, Britne Oldford, Genesis Rodriguez and Jake Epstein will join returning co-star Justin H. Min in the upcoming third season of the Netflix drama from showrunner Steve Blackman.
The Umbrella Academy - Season 3
The five join returning stars Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Ritu Arya, Adam Godley and Colm Feore for season three, which will begin production in February in Toronto.
In Season 2, Harlan hears Viktor and his mother having an argument, at which point he runs away from home. By the time Viktor finds him, Harlan had drowned in a lake. Viktor brings him back to life with CPR, but this causes some of Viktor's powers to transfer to him. Viktor later tries to take these powers back, but towards the end of the season, we learn he has been unsuccessful.
Fans of The Umbrella Academy have been dying to learn more about the third season, and finally, we have some exciting casting news for the upcoming season. The members of The Sparrow Academy have been announced, and all of the cast members have been revealed.
Page, who came out as transgender in December 2020, announced in March that his character would transition in season 3 and be known as Viktor Hargreeves. Viktor goes by he/him/his pronouns, and is also referred to as Number Seven.
Raver-Lampman, meanwhile, teased that \"The Umbrella Academy\" season 3 will feature the \"wild and crazy\" Hargreeves family trying to get back to their original timeline. She also gushed about her friendship with Page, whom she called \"just the best.\"
The Sparrow version of the Ben (Justin H. Min) is the only person from the group who was confirmed to be alive by the end of the season. He was last shown on a train in Seoul, South Korea in an end-credits scene.
For Allison, being in Dallas last season was a helpless situation because she lived in constant fear that someone she loved would fall victim to a crime they didn't commit. None of her siblings had that experience in Texas, so they couldn't relate to her.
A TV show introducing some fresh faces is nothing new. Casting turnover is one of the ways that the medium is able to stay fresh, year after year. Still, there are normal casting tweaks and then there is what The Umbrella Academy is set to do in season 3.
The Umbrella Academy Season 3 kicks off with a bit of good news: The Brellies have returned to 2019. After spending the second season in the 1960s, Luther (Tom Hopper), Diego (David Castañeda), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Five (Aidan Gallagher), and Viktor (Elliot Page) successfully time-traveled back to the present day. The bad news? The place they once called home is now The Sparrow Academy. After meeting the Umbrellas in 1963, Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) decided to adopt a new set of kids. They are the Sparrows, and each of them has a superpower a little stranger than the next.
Considering Netflix has released a season of The Umbrella Academy annually since its debut in 2019, many fans anticipated The Umbrella Academy season 3 would drop in 2021. Unfortunately, the show was one of many series that began production later than expected due to the pandemic with filming not wrapping until August 2021.
Because of the scale of the effects added to the show in post-production, the series typically several months to complete once filming has ended which is likely the key reason no new season dropped in 2021.
The Kugelblitz, which roughly translates from German as a ball of lightning, is the main terror in season three of The Umbrella Academy. A raging red, black hole that causes the third apocalypse for our ragtag team of superheroes to resolve before it destroys the entire universe. This swirling vortex of doom is their greatest enemy yet and may prove unstoppable. But what is the Kugelblitz, and what caused it to form in the first place?
The first thing we see of the new timeline is Allison arriving at her old house to look for Claire. Unlike earlier in the season, the girl in the room is her daughter, and they finally reunite. Also, Ray's there instead of her ex-husband, somehow brought from the '60s to the present day.
Everyone splits up: Luther goes to look for Sloane, with Klaus following his "fragile" newly-undead brother; Sparrow Ben calls them "bitches" and dips; Diego and Lila run off to bang probably; and Five and Viktor are left confused at their reemergence into the world. The last shot of the season shows just how strange that world is, zooming through a skyline of Hargreeves skyscrapers up to a perch where the tycoon is ruling over it all, with his reincarnated wife Abigail at his side.
Actually, that was the second-to-last shot of the season. In surprise mid-credits scene, set in a Seoul subway car mirroring the opening flashback, we see a kinder version of Ben smiling as sparks reflect behind him. Before your minds go wild, showrunner Steve Blackman confirmed in an interview with Collider (opens in new tab) that this is "the Ben we know from Season 3." How Sparrow Ben gets from "later bitches" to that kind smile will be an interesting story.
It's no surprise that season 3 ended on yet another huge cliffhanger, but this time, fans have very little insight into what comes next. The first three seasons of the show followed the three volumes of Umbrella Academy comics; they diverge heavily from the plot but their overall themes still matched the shows trajectory. (Their titles Apocalypse Suite, Dallas, and Hotel Oblivion, could also be descriptors for each season.) The upcoming fourth volume, Sparrow Academy, is still forthcoming, but it reportedly influenced season 3.
All fan theorists have to theorize with for The Umbrella Academy season 4 (opens in new tab) is the information from the final three scenes (Allison, Umbrellas, and mid-credit). It looks like Hargreeves going to finally upgrade from Worst Dad Ever to Active Big Bad in an upcoming season, since the Umbrellas probably are not going to mesh well with the new timeline. (We wouldn't be surprised if the old man sees them as loose ends and plans to wipe them out.)
Also changed, it emerges that the mothers of the Umbrellas died before giving birth to them in this timeline, thanks to an accidental psychic attack by Harlan, a boy given abilities by Viktor (Elliot Page) in the 1960s as well. This creates a grandfather paradox which in turn creates a dangerous ball of energy called a Kugelblitz, which spends the whole season eating up people, animals and things before consuming the entire universe by the final episode.
Facing this threat, the Umbrella and Sparrow Academies team up and follow Sir Reginald (Colm Feore) into the Hotel Oblivion, a strange parallel version of the Hotel Obsidian used as a residence by the Hargreeves siblings in this season.
Or is it instead the case that in this timeline, the Hargreeves children were never adopted, so grew up where they were born? In other words, are there doubles of all the children living in this world that our heroes will rub up against in season 4?
I actually think that The Umbrella Academy might benefit from a bit of slimming down, particularly after last season which really felt like it dragged. But this is almost assuredly being done for cost reasons as Netflix looks to cut back, and is a middleground between say, a full 10 episode, 10 hour order, and reversing the renewal entirely, which is not impossible in this day and age of streaming, and has happened before with Netflix shows like GLOW. At least The Umbrella Academy will be allowed an actual ending, which is more than many other Netflix series can say.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 came back with even more superpowered characters, time travel, and another apocalypse. Time travel has always been a key component of the show, as Number Five (Aiden Gallagher) developed the power of time travel. Plus, the Commission has those wonderful little briefcases that can easily catapult any user through time. Yet, this season, the time travel seems to get even more nuanced than before.
At the end of season one, the Hargreeves siblings stopped a world-ending event. However, they sent themselves back in time to the 1960s. By being there, they messed with the existing timeline and triggered another apocalypse. After fixing their mistakes and covering their tracks, they thought they could return to their own time. However, when they arrived, nothing seemed normal. What did they do wrong now?
All of them with different unique habilities and fantastic story arcs. There is very little information about the other counterparts but we already know they are known as The Sparrow Academy. You also might've noticed a specific change from the other two seasons to a particular character in the series.
After the life-changing decision Elliot Page made, we all wondered how the series runners would adapt it to the story. It appears they did it well, especially knowing how incredible of an actor Elliot Page is. Now that we know these details, it's also safe to say that the show already posted many details about the upcoming season on their social media accounts. 041b061a72
