The movie has only one main theme and that is the chase scene. If that was the only thing to be relied on, it would be a breeze to pass. However the chase scene comes across as a drag with numerous scenes that go on far longer than needed. The second half of the movie with most of the stunt sequences becomes a bore. It's also filled with unnecessary characters like Ryan's boss, the Europol agent. This character adds nothing but an extra facet for the audience to look at. This is one of the most frustrating aspects of the movie.
And since then, with Cloud Atlas and V For Vendetta under their belts, the Wachowskis have been waiting for the right actor who can embody the world of the samurai (not to mention sumo wrestling) before releasing a new Ninja Assassin movie.
A number of big-name stars have passed through the casting net for the role before landing Rain, including Hulk star Sam Worthington, but it's now been revealed that American actor Tom Cruise has actually landed the part. Cruise will play a U.S. government agent who tries to turn Rain away from the ninja clan he's a part of and eventually succeeds by the end of the movie.
Ninja Assassin is currently in production with filming set to kick off later this year. The movie is expected to make its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September and the film is due for release in 2015.
