i think the middle east instrument is really cool because it opens up a lot of opportunities to work with non-western sounds and instruments. also in the middle east you have the ability to work with instruments that can be used to make beats. with the middle east instrument you can start with drums and build on them until you get what you want. if you just like to work with sounds or just want to create some sounds, it will be a really good starting point.

theres a handful of turkish and middle eastern producers doing experimental music, hybridising turkish with other styles. theres sami baha, my label mate foozool who is armenian and she mixes a lot of armenian and western electronic music. theres a producerfrom beirut, lebanon and based in chicagonamed thoom whose ep we released and her stuff is more experimental in structure. creating the label club chai has been helpful because its a digital platform where i can help people release music and also gather an archive of sounds.

im going to start a new project in the next few months that has a different take on the middle east. its a dubstep, electro-fusion thing. im not trying to be a dubstep dj but its always been my other thing and so i thought i would explore that more. im doing it on one of my own instruments. it has a middle eastern feel to it because its a combination of a lot of middle eastern stuff. its got a lot of indian stuff in there too, i think its pretty cool. its a little bit more ska influenced but its got a good middle eastern feel to it. its hard to describe but it sounds like you would hear if you were in turkey or somewhere near the middle east. im excited to get this going because its been on my computer for the past few years and ive always wanted to do it.
